Strive for Independence
At Strive for Independence, we provide home care services in the Northeast Ohio area to individuals with disabilities. We focus on their independence with a person-centered focus and choices and options to allow them to determine and advocate for themselves. Our staff are trained and are supported by management so they can be available to support those in need. We minimize risks while focusing on what is important to every individual we serve.
We will partner with individuals with disabilities to help them with what they need and want in their home and community. Through our lived experiences and knowledge of the support needed, we will provide empathy and advocacy for everyone we serve. Challenging misunderstanding of what disability is, we will put the person first and identify what is needed to support everyone we serve and keep them healthy and happy in their home and ensure they are full members of their community at the level they choose.
Our Team.
In 1993 Michelle Murphy’s youngest of two sons, Steven Murphy, was diagnosed with autism. She knew she needed to learn more about this right away and learned through books, conferences and materials. In 1995 she started in residential services at the local county board to dive deeper into understanding and helping others. After 15 years of service in the county board she knew she still wanted to help others in the home and community. She had encouraged her oldest son, through her actions, to further himself in the field of home care as well. She spent the next six years working in management for a home and community based services provider learning more about the field and how services are properly provided. In 2016, Strive for Independence was born out of a need for more available agencies to serve individuals with disabilities in their homes and in the community.
