People who need help in their home are Americans just like everyone else and will be treated with all rights afforded to all Americans at every ability level. We provide this by always offering choices and options to every individual in our care, gearing our focus on the person and allowing them to determine and advocate for themselves.
Our business is built on people, the ones we serve and the ones who serve others. We will always approach individuals with a person-centered approach, always listening in whatever way an individual is able to communicate and adjust our approach to what is important to and important for the individual.
We remind individuals that mistakes are okay and if anything are rewarded! Learning is what’s important, not what happened in the past. We will support our individuals by providing services that will help minimize risks while they strive to do things, succeed or fail, to better themselves and their community.
We are all human and make mistakes, but ethical choices will always be the focus. We will as an organization focus on what is right. We will always have an open door policy if anyone has any concern, question, or comment about our company or services. Our staff will always approach situations with respect and professionalism.
In 1993 Michelle Murphy’s youngest of two sons was diagnosed with autism. She knew she needed to learn more about this right away and learned through books, conferences and materials.
In 1995 she started in residential services at the local county board to dive deeper into understanding and helping others. After 15 years of service in the county board she knew she still wanted to help others in the home and community. She had encouraged her oldest son, through her actions, to further himself in the field of home care as well.
She spent the next six years working in management for a home and community based services provider learning more about the field and how services are properly provided.
In 2016, Strive for Independence was born out of a need for more available agencies to serve individuals with disabilities in their homes and in the community. This need continues today and we continue to serve this great need for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
